General Overview:

ASTM International is a globally recognized leader in the development and delivery of voluntary consensus standards. Today, over 12,000 ASTM standards are used around the world to improve product quality, enhance health and safety, strengthen market access and trade and build consumer confidence.


The organization’s leadership in international standards development is driven by the contributions of its members: more than 30,000 of the world’s top technical experts and business professionals representing 140 countries. Working in an open and transparent process and using ASTM’s advanced IT infrastructure, ASTM International members create the test methods, specifications, classifications, guides and practices that support industries and governments worldwide.


Background Information Specific To Water Leisure Industry:

ASTM Committee F24 on Amusement Rides and Devices was formed in 1978. F24 meets twice a year, usually in February and October, with approximately 250 members from around the world attending two or three days of technical meetings.

The F24 Committee, with current membership of approximately 925+ members representing 26 countries, currently has jurisdiction of 19 standards, published in the “Annual Book of ASTM Standards,” Volume 15.07. These standards have and continue to play a preeminent role in all aspects important to amusement rides and devices.

Within ASTM Committee F24 are a dozen subcommittees, which address specific segments within the general subject area covered by the technical committee. ASTM F24.70 specifically focus on Water Related Amusement Rides and Devices.

There are two existing standards that were created under the F24.70 Subcommittee:

F2376-13 Standard Practice for Classification, Design, Manufacture, Construction, and Operation of Water Slide Systems

F2461-09 Standard Practice for Manufacture, Construction, Operation, and Maintenance of Aquatic Play Equipment

In addition to existing standards, there are three proposed new standards currently being reviewed by the Subcommittee:

WK31624 New Practice for the Classification, Design, Manufacture, Construction, and Operation of Standing Wave Systems

WK34920 New Practice for Water Slide Conveyors for rafts, tubes, and guests

WK47642 New Practice for Standard Practice for Water Propelled Jet Packs for commercial use
