Slips, Trips, and Falls in Waterparks: Biomechanical Implications of Various Factors

Date: Saturday, October 09, 2010
Time: 9:45 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Speaker: Michelle Heller, William Bussone

Class Description:

Each of the over 5,000 steps that the average healthy adult takes in a day has the potential to result in a slip, trip, or misstep, but considering the large number of opportunities, most individuals rarely fall. Many factors including age, stair ascent/descent, gait transitions, footwear, surface transitions, and distractions may affect an individual’s walking pattern, which thereby may influence their likelihood of falling. Learn how the biomechanical implications of each of these factors can be applied to indoor and outdoor waterparks.
